In addition to its National Historic District and Certified Cultural District, the Town of Washington will soon add Louisiana Main Street to its list of attributes. The Steamboat City Association is working to have the Town of Washington designated as a Louisiana Main Street community, joining nearly 40 other Louisiana communities who have harnessed their historic downtowns for economic development. Louisiana Main Street designated the Town of Washington as a Lagniappe community in August 2025. Washington anticipates official Main Street designation by April 2027.
